ACTING OUT A MATH PLAY: Students view the videos of the math concepts and use them as inspiration to create their own math plays where they act out the concept using dance and song. Dancing basic math concepts helps students understand that math represents quantities. The vocal sound associated with a number is secondary. This creative process that links movement, music and lyrics to the concepts of the following math problems is an example of accelerated learning. For example, students can form two lines about four steps apart. One student from one line and one student from the other line dance to the center and join hands as the whole class shows the math with their figures and sings 1+1=2 in the language of their choice. Using their two lines, the students can create more math plays by dancing to the center in numerous combinations. This helps the students extrapolate new math problems and strengthens their understanding of addition.
